We spent our long weekend (Labor Day) in California’s Eastern Sierra. Out of curiosity and to discover another hidden part of the Sierra Nevada, we decided to take Sonora Pass to get back to the Bay Area. After Yosemite’s Tioga Pass at 9,943 ft., this is the second highest highway at 9624 ft. that crosses […]
The last few days we had beautiful sunsets here in San Francisco. I hoped for the same thing tonight, but the sky over downtown wasn’t that exciting. Still, I enjoyed being outside and I got to play with my new camera (Nikon D800). I have to get used to the changed position of some buttons […]
A little panorama from Treasure Island showing the San Francisco skyline with the Golden Gate Bridge under a dramatic sky.
I captured this sunset the other day at Ocean Beach in San Francisco. I was shifting my PC-E lens horizontally while taking this long time exposure. This added additional emphasis on the glowing horizon and vertical gradient while hiding some of the dirt in the sand.
We spent last weekend in Yosemite enjoying the fall colors. While walking along Merced River, I discovered this spot with El Capitan and a nice reflection. Initially, I walked a bit further and discovered a lot of photographers on the other side of the Merced River taking in the scenery from Valley View. That’s not […]
Sunset pictures of Yosemite usually include some of the typical features such as Half Dome or El Capitan. I have a few of those too and love them! Sunday, on the way back from Tuolumne Meadows, the sun was setting and we got glimpse here and there showing how the sky turned. And there was […]
During February for about two weeks, the setting sun just touches the Horsetail Waterfall in Yosemite and creates something that looks like the old Glacier Point Firefall. In order to see the effect of the natural “fire fall”, there must be sufficient water flowing, some wind to generate the mist, and the sun should not […]
This picture was taken 15 minutes after sunset while the horizon was still glowing. The three rocks in the middle of the Pacific caught my attention. I used a long time exposure to smoothen out the rolling waves. When I saw the result, I was pleased how this afternoon at Lands End turned out. Back […]
After a day of skiing, we went down to the shore to enjoy the upcoming sunset. First we were at the Ski Run Marina which was not that inspiring. To our left we saw a big pier reaching into the bay, the Timber Cove Marina. So we went over there for some exploring. On our […]
Here are some impressions from a weekend in Yosemite. The first day it was nice and sunny, the second day we had rain. Two totally different sceneries presented us. We already thought that the sunset is over. But wait, the sky opened up and the sun found its spot and illuminated Half Dome. The next […]
The other day I was on Treasure Island taking some pictures of the Golden Gate bridge with the setting sun. Once the sun was gone, the after glow was sitting behind the city. It was getting darker and this is when the city lights where coming out. I converted this picture to b/w and I […]
For sunset, we went down to the Lake Tahoe shore after a day of skiing. It was really cold, but the scenery made up for it.
