This form may be used to search for photos in the photo albums and on the blog.
Please have a look at the search help on how to refine your search term(s).
Photo Search Help
Search accepts required and omitted terms, and defaults to “OR” behavior. “OR” behavior means that a search for “california bridge” would return all hits for either “california” OR “bridge”.
To require a term, use “+” (plus); following term would ensure that only images of bridges in California are found:
+california bridge
To omit a term, use “-” (minus); this would return all images from bridges outside of California:
bridge -california
To search a string of words as if it were a single term, wrap it in either single or double quotation marks:
"San Francisco"
To require or omit a string of words, add the “+” or “-” sign within the quotes:
bridge "+San Francisco"

Due to the lack of snow I spent a day at the beach instead of a day skiing. It is really strange to wear swim trunks in January in Northern California and not to be cold. I enjoyed it, but hopefully I wont get used to this! At sunset I visited Seacliff State Park. They […]
After several days of rain, we awoke to a beautiful sunrise near Fifi beach on La Désirade. La Désirade is a little island in the Caribbean 10 miles away from ‘mainland’ Guadeloupe. There are several beaches where fishermen leave their boats anchored near the shore or directly on the beach. Along with tourism, fishing is […]
Last Saturday I went to San Francisco’s Baker Beach to take some sunset pictures with the cloudy sky. Only down at the beach I realized that the Escape from Alcatraz Triatlon will happen the next day. Once the runners past this mark, there is a right turn and then it goes up, all the way […]
Earlier this year, while walking on a beach in Northern California I found these different pieces of driftwood. Some of them evoked calligraphy. I didn’t move any pieces, but just looked for interesting compositions.
I spent some time today with a friend who wanted to learn more about solid and graduated neutral density filters. After some theory lessons, we went to the beach to practice. While my focus was not on taking pictures, I ended up with some keepers and a new project idea: Calmness Calmness is the mental […]
2014 was an exciting year. One of its highlights was definitely my first trip to China where I visited Guizhou Province and Shanghai. Many other trips were closer to home: journeys up and down the California coast, to the Eastern Sierra, to Tahoe, to Yosemite, to Oregon, to … Well, it was very fulfilling. It […]
Saturday night we met with friends for dinner at one of our favorite sushi places in Half Moon Bay, Sushi Main Street. I had my camera with me so I could capture images of the sunset before going to the restaurant. While walking along the Pacific Coastal Trail, I found this spot with the putting […]
Capitola is a small coastal town east of Santa Cruz, California, at the northern end of the Monterey Bay. Usually if you are on the pacific coast, you see the setting sun over the ocean. But the Capitola beach faces south east and not west. This means sun sets behind you. Lately we have one […]
A few weeks ago after a day of skiing under a cloudy sky, my sunset expectations were low. Was I wrong! Towards the end of the day, the cloud cover moved a bit and revealed an open sky along parts of the horizon. This was when I became more optimistic. There is a little beach […]
Last year for Thanksgiving weekend, we made a trip to Portland, Oregon. While we barely stopped on the way there, we took the longer but very scenic coastal road on the way back to California. Our last stop before the border was in Bandon, where we enjoyed a gorgeous sunset. The timing was almost perfect. […]
