Tonight I went to San Francisco’s Embarcadero to take pictures of the moon rising behind the Bay Bridge. As it turned out, the conditions were great to spend a few hours outside and having fun.
When I arrived at the waterfront, the moon was already fairly high up in the sky and perfectly positioned for the dancing act. I really like that the setting sun still illuminated the top of the tower.

But one of the shots I really wanted to take is the moon balancing on top of one of the Bay Bridge towers. I got the alignment right, but unfortunately there is only a little hint of the nice dusk colors at the bottom of the image and The Bay Lights aren’t that great either.

The other picture on my mental shot list was the moon up in the sky together with the Bay Bridge illuminated by The Bay Lights project. As a lucky coincidence, a boat just passed by when I took this one.

I took advantage of the nice weather and the clouds in the sky to get some more shots.

While walking around, I met a couple who were playing with a glass sphere. I really loved the effect and I could take a few shots too.

Your photos are making me cry. (in a good way) I had to leave SF 10 years ago, and it breaks my heart every day to be away. These photos in particular are heart breakers because I worked at the Old Federal Reserve Building on Sansome St. My shift was 3:00 p.m. to midnight. (I worked in the IT dept of a large law firm – and lawyers and paralegals never sleep!) I could usually pick and choose my break and dinner times, and I’ve seen so many of these images up close and personal, all the way from mid-afternoon, to evening falling, to the dark of night, and even at sunrise after some very long shifts. Beautiful work. Thank you!
Thank you for your kind words, Lisa. I am happy to call San Francisco home and it is just so photogenic. Every time I am out there shooting, I discover yet another thing I haven’t seen yet.
