Sierra Nevada Bighorn Sheep

During my recent trip to the White Mountains, I was happy to finally spot the Sierra Nevada Bighorn Sheep. I knew that the previous day, some visitors encountered a flock midway up the Silver Canyon Road*. Since this was the route I had planned to take, I was hopeful to find some as well. Indeed, at the bottom of the steep section of the road was a flock of about 16 sheep.

While I didn’t notice any rams (males) with their big and curvy horns, I saw ewes (females) with several juveniles.

* If you think about taking Silver Canyon Road, please observe the signs. A few years ago, this was just like any other dirt road. But the state of the road has changed and now it really requires 4WD and high clearance.
